Before the Crisis: A Family Livelihood at Risk
Nalu Malkar’s life took a sudden turn when she lost her husband to COVID-19. He had been running a small Chinese food stall, the family’s main source of income. Left to care for her children alone, Nalu worked as a cook and took on sewing jobs to survive. But despite her hard work, financial security seemed out of reach.
At a community meeting held by Vidarbha Molkarin Sanghatana, Nalu shared her dream of reviving the food stall. Her honesty and determination struck a chord with the organization. They provided training in Chinese cuisine and small business management skills that gave her the confidence to start over.
The Turning Point: Community and Courage
Rebuilding Her Life: Business and Balance
With renewed skills and encouragement, Nalu reopened the food stall and even hired a helper. She continues her cooking jobs while managing the stall and stays connected with her mentors to grow her business. Her journey has transformed not only her income but also her confidence.
Today, Nalu is not just back at work, she is an inspiration for other workers who face similar injustice. She speaks openly about her story to help others understand their rights and raise their voices against wrongful treatment.
