Negotiation and the Successful Re-Employment
– Aasma Khan, Badatajbag, Nagpur | Supported by Nagpur Mahila Kamgar Sanghatna
An Unexpected Dismissal
Aasma Khan, a 39-year-old resident of Badatajbag, Nagpur, works hard to support her three children. She was employed full-time at a mosque in Ittwara, from early morning till afternoon. When she took one week’s leave for her brother’s wedding and an additional eight days due to illness, both of which she communicated to her employer, she returned only to be told that her services were no longer required. The sudden loss of income threw her household into crisis, especially with rent, daily expenses, and a loan to repay.
Facing emotional and financial stress, Aasma turned to Nikhat from Nagpur Mahila Kamgar Sanghatna. Nikhat contacted the mosque’s community in-charge and firmly advocated for Aasma’s reinstatement. Though the employer initially defended his decision, citing extended leave, Nikhat stood her ground. She reminded him of the injustice and made it clear that a formal complaint could be filed if needed.
