Salah
Social Action for Labour and Health (SALAH) is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1999 by Mr. Madhukant Patharia. It is committed to improving the lives of economically disadvantaged and marginalised communities, particularly unorganised workers and their families. SALAH operates in multiple districts across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, and Nashik.

Objectives

Key Activities

Organising domestic workers, naka workers, and jari workers into collectives

Providing leadership training, with a focus on women workers

Facilitating access to food security, housing, and social welfare schemes

Mobilising and organising SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities

Supporting legal interventions and engaging in policy advocacy

Conducting skill development programmes for workers

Executing crisis relief operations such as ration distribution during emergencies


Key Achievements

Registered 750 domestic workers with the Domestic Workers' Welfare Board

Organised 3,500 women domestic workers into active collectives

Mobilised over 5,000 workers from the construction and informal sectors

Facilitated 450 registrations under the BOCW Welfare Board

Helped 350 waste pickers obtain municipal identity cards

Provided NSDC-certified skill training to 1,250 naka workers

Supported 600 jari workers in accessing welfare schemes and entitlements
